The numbers following the names are each individual’s unique reference number, which makes it easier to identify each person. There are for instance, details of around 300 people called William Gant on my website!
There is more information for all the people and trees on my One Name Study website.
Earliest Events
The blue flags show the date and location of the first recorded event for the earliest known ancestor of a tree starting in England. A tree is defined as having at least three identified generations. The dates range from around 1580 to the mid 1800s, with most being from 1750-1825.
The red flag is the very earliest event recorded so far.

1881 Census
The map shows the distribution of the Gant surname in 1881, taken from the 1881 census of England and Wales. Where I could identify a road or a street, I’ve marked it. Otherwise, I’ve just marked the town or village. Each marker represents one or more families in the same town or village. (This map is a work in progress, so not yet finished!)

2000 Electoral Roll
Each marker represents the approximate location – by town/village/city or postcode – where there are 2 or more households as taken from the 2000 electoral roll of the United Kingdom. The red pins show areas where there are 5 to 9 households, and the green pins show areas where there are 10 or more households.
